About Us

MatterWave is set up to commercialize R&D at IIT Bombay that is led by the team comprising its co-founders and senior scientific advisor.

This includes semiconductor products for communication, sensing and power management applications that are differentiated by design and process innovation; and spans novel materials to heterogeneous integration.

The target domains include RF communication and radar – both terrestrial and space-based – using GaN based devices; as well as underwater sensing and communication – using acousto-optical and GaN based optical devices.

The initial technology thrust here has been on nitride semiconductor based RF devices and systems – looking not only at the traditional power amplifier application, but also low-noise amplifiers, and the integration of rugged computing.

A major milestone for the founding team was the co-development with ISRO Space Applications Centre (SAC) of process technology for their upcoming GaN foundry. Here is the joint statement from the two teams on this:

“ISRO-SAC and IITB are pleased to recognize that their collaboration on gallium nitride (GaN) devices for RF applications has resulted in the development of a set of front-end fabrication processes for further integration towards space worthy high power device development. The strong collaboration on this topic between the organizations continues on other aspects of this technology, with the overall goal of facilitating the SAC GaN Foundry.”
